Healthy People in Action

Healthy Northeast Ohio is a web-based repository for population health data that serves 9 counties in Ohio. With frequently updated local and state data — plus a suite of tools to help users understand that data — the platform aims to give public health departments, hospitals, and other partners in the region insights into their community’s health status to guide decision-making. Healthy Northeast Ohio includes Healthy People 2030 targets to allow users to see, at a glance, how local data compare to national targets.

This guest post is part of Healthy People in Action, a blog series highlighting how key partners use the Healthy People framework in their work, form cross-sector collaborations, and address social determinants of health to help improve health for all. In this post, the author discusses volunteering as a means to improve social connection for older adults and the resulting positive health outcomes for both those being served and the volunteer.

Registration is now open for the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) and American Public Health Association webinar, Community-Based Violence Prevention and Firearm Safety. This webinar will take place on Tuesday, July 16 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET. During this one-hour event, ODPHP will present on two Healthy People 2030 featured objectives related to violence prevention and firearm safety and feature presentations by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and Polk County Health Department discussing intervention strategies.
