Key Points
- To advance the science of health disparities research, the NIH Common Fund launched the Community Partnerships to Advance Science for Society (ComPASS) program.
- The goals of ComPASS are to develop, share, and evaluate community-led health structural interventions that leverage partnerships across multiple sectors to reduce health disparities and develop a new research model for community-led, multisectoral structural intervention research across NIH and other federal agencies.
- The ComPASS program funds 25 community-led, health-focused structural intervention projects that engage communities in research across the United States.
FIM Opportunities
The ComPASS program directly funded research projects led by community organizations, which will work in collaboration with research partners to study ways to address the underlying structural factors within communities that affect health. These factors may include:
- Access to quality health care and healthy food
- Employment opportunities
- Safe spaces
- Transportation
Of the 25 funded community-led, health intervention projects, 7 include a focus on nutrition and food environment. One funded research project is using structural interventions to address food insecurity in underserved communities in South Florida.
