Each month, we feature select National Health Observances (NHOs) highlighting important health issues that affect Americans every day. The NHOs in our November roundup help raise awareness about antibiotic resistance, diabetes, and COPD.
Below you’ll find links to resources you can use to promote these NHOs to your networks — so it’s easy for you to join the conversation!
- American Diabetes Month
Each November, the American Diabetes Association sponsors American Diabetes Month to teach people how to help prevent type 2 diabetes. Healthy People 2020 has many related objectives in the Diabetes topic area. And you can raise awareness about the NHO using the promotional toolkits from healthfinder and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Finally, check out healthfinder’s diabetes content to find easy-to-understand resources to share with patients. - COPD Awareness Month
The American Lung Association sponsors National COPD Awareness Month in November to raise awareness about COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Join the social media conversation using the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) graphics and sample posts. You can also learn more about the Healthy People 2020 objectives related to COPD in the Respiratory Diseases topic area. Remember, smoking is a direct cause of COPD — so it’s also a great time to share healthfinder’s actionable resource designed to help people quit. - U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week
From November 18 to 24, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) uses U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week to raise awareness about antibiotic resistance. Use the Be Aware Partner Toolkit to emphasize the importance of using antibiotics correctly. And be sure to take a look at Healthy People 2020 objectives related to preventing antibiotic resistance in the Immunization and Infectious Diseases topic area.
We hope you’ll help us promote these important NHOs on your channels. Together, we can work toward a healthier Nation.
