In recent years, the number of new hepatitis A cases in the United States has increased. While it’s usually a short-term infection, hepatitis A can require hospitalization and can result in rare but serious outcomes, like liver failure or death. Making sure children and at-risk adults get the hepatitis A vaccine can help reduce the rate of hepatitis A nationwide.
