While spring is around the corner, it is never too early to think about the tips and tools that may help you eat better and move more during the warmer months. These resources may help:

Read about smart food and beverage choices for sports and exercise at the website of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, sponsor of National Nutrition Month. You’ll find articles and tips for athletes, resistance trainers, families, and people interested in losing weight.
• Visit ChooseMyPlate.gov for Healthy Eating for an Active Lifestyle. This tip sheet includes links to other tools to help you track your activity and food intake, and set and reach your goals.
• Check out this issue of the Research Digest of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition that focuses on what and when to eat for top athletic performance. It suggests how to time meals and snacks and what to eat to get the most out of your workouts. It also covers weight, energy balance, and supplements.  
• Take the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award+ (PALA+) challenge. Visit the website to sign up for the 8-week program and work toward 30 minutes of exercise a day, 5 days a week, along with eight healthy eating goals.
• Inspire kids to take charge of their health with BAM! Body and Mind, a website created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for kids ages 9 to 13. BAM! features a list of healthy snacks, activity cards, and even a calendar kids can use to plan physical activity.
