The White House issued a presidential proclamation announcing that September 2015 is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. The proclamation marks the fifth year that the White House has encouraged all Americans to observe National Childhood Obesity Month by learning about and engaging in activities that promote healthy eating and greater physical activity among children.
The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is the home of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (PAG), an essential resource for health professionals and policymakers to help children and adults improve their health through physical activity. Based on the latest science, the guidelines help consumers understand the benefits of physical activity and how to make it a part of their regular routine. Subscribe to the Be Active Your Way Blog for more ideas to increase physical activity.
ODPHP also offers a toolkit for National Childhood Obesity Month on healthfinder.gov. The toolkit is full of resources to help promote National Childhood Obesity Month. For example:
- Add information about obesity prevention to your newsletter.
- Tweet about National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.
- Host a community event where families can be active while learning about local health resources.
- Become a partner of We Can!, a national movement to help children ages 8 to 13 stay at a healthy weight.
