Join us on Thursday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m. ET to learn about progress made toward achieving the Healthy People 2020 Tobacco Leading Health Indicators. You’ll also hear how ClearWay Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Health are partnering to reduce tobacco use and exposure.
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the United States. Each year, nearly half a million American adults die prematurely of smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke — and every day, about 2,000 young people age 18 or younger try their first cigarette. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Preventing tobacco use and helping people who use tobacco to quit can improve health and quality of life for many Americans.
About Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators
The Leading Health Indicators (LHIs) represent a smaller set of Healthy People 2020 objectives selected to communicate high-priority health issues and actions to help address them. LHIs are used to assess the health of the Nation, facilitate collaboration across sectors, and motivate action to improve the health of the U.S. population.
