We’re excited to roll out a new monthly blog series designed to help health professionals like you add your voice to the national conversation on improving health! Each month, we’ll be featuring select National Health Observances (NHOs) that align with our priorities for improving health across the Nation. To make it easy for you to help spread the word, we’ll provide links to resources that you can use to promote these NHOs.
In our very first NHO roundup, we’re talking about increasing physical activity levels, stroke prevention, improving women’s health, and more! Check out the resources below — and join us in our efforts to help all Americans live healthier lives.
- Healthy Vision Month
Sponsored by the National Eye Institute (NEI), Healthy Vision Month is all about promoting eye health and safety. Check out NEI’s resources to help spread the word with shareable graphics, social media content, and more! Healthy People 2020 also has a whole topic area related to vision. - Hepatitis Awareness Month
Every May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) engages partners to raise awareness about the hidden epidemic of viral hepatitis. Use CDC’s resources to join this important conversation and encourage priority populations to get tested. And be sure to check out the Healthy People 2020 objectives to reduce hepatitis infections. - National Physical Fitness & Sports Month
The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition (PCSFN) sponsors this important NHO every year — and they have information to help you promote it. We’ve got some resources that will come in handy, too — check out healthfinder’s toolkit and these Move Your Way campaign materials to get people moving in May! - National Stroke Awareness Month
Sponsored by National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), this NHO is a time to reflect on the importance of preventing strokes. Take a look at CDC’s toolkit to find general stroke awareness resources and use healthfinder’s stroke topic to help patients understand their risk. - National Women’s Health Week (5/12 to 5/18)
The Office on Women’s Health (OWH) sponsors Women’s Health Week every year — it’s a time to encourage women to play an active role in their health. Use OWH’s promotional tools to join the celebration — and check out healthfinder’s resources for women!
We hope you’ll use our monthly roundups to promote these important observances on your channels and with your networks. Together, we can take steps to improve the Nation’s health.
Happy and healthy May!
