Each month, we feature select National Health Observances (NHOs) that align with our priorities for improving health across the Nation. This month’s NHOs help raise awareness about childhood obesity, substance use recovery, and food safety!
To make it easy for you to help spread the word, we provide links to resources that you can use to promote these NHOs. Check out the resources below — and join us in our efforts to help all Americans live healthier lives.
- National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
Supported by the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month is all about addressing childhood obesity by creating opportunities for kids to eat healthy and get more physical activity. This healthfinder toolkit has a number of materials you can use to promote this NHO. And be sure to take a look at the Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators related to nutrition, physical activity, and obesity. - National Recovery Month
For the past 30 years, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has sponsored National Recovery Month. SAMHSA uses National Recovery Month to educate Americans about substance use treatment and mental health services — and to celebrate those in recovery. Check out this Recovery Month toolkit for resources to share with your networks. And take a look at the Healthy People Substance Abuse 2020 topic area. You can also share healthfinder’s easy-to-understand resources on mental health. - National Food Safety Education Month
Each year, the Partnership for Food Safety Education uses the month of September to encourage safe and healthy meal preparation. To help raise awareness, you can share CDC’s food safety resources and healthfinder’s tips for preventing food poisoning. And learn more about foodborne illness and ways to improve food safety by checking out the Healthy People 2020 Food Safety topic area.
We hope you’ll use the resources we’ve provided to promote these important observances on your channels and with your networks. Together, we can take steps to improve the Nation’s health.
