Be a part of the process of developing the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. As the first step in the process, 17 nationally recognized experts in physical activity and health have been appointed to serve on the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee's first meeting will take place on July 14, 8:30 - 11:30 AM and July 15, 8:00 AM - 3:15 PM. The meeting is open to the public in person at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus in Bethesda or via webcast.
When it comes to physical activity and health, we know that regular physical activity can produce long term health benefits and reduce the risk of depression, cognitive decline, and many chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.
And when it comes to opportunities to be physically activity, we know that we need to do more to create communities where everyone can make physical activity a part of their daily routine – through safe spaces to walk, run, bike, wheelchair roll, and play.
HHS posted a notice in the Federal Register on May 12, 2016 announcing the re-establishment of the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee (PAGAC). The Department is currently reviewing candidates for the 2018 PAGAC and expects to reach a decision in time to convene a public meeting in the summer of 2016.…
