Planning is underway for the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans to be released in 2018. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is seeking nominations for the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee. Details about qualifications and requirements for nominations are available through the Federal Register Notice.
The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans are an essential resource for health professionals and policymakers. Based on the latest science, they provide guidance on how children and adults can improve their health through physical activity. The first edition of the PAG was released in 2008, followed in 2013 by the Midcourse Report, which focused on strategies to increase physical activity in youth. These strategies have informed the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Let’s Move! programs, national public health objectives in Healthy People 2020, and physical activity data collection and monitoring. ODPHP will lead the development of the second edition in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
Nominations for the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee must be submitted by 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, February 5, 2016.
