This report updates previous Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendations for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to include a 2-dose schedule for children and adolescents who start the vaccination series before age 15 years. 

ACIP recommends the following schedule for routine HPV vaccination:

  • For people starting the vaccination series before their 15th birthday: 2 doses of HPV vaccine, given  6 to 12 months apart
  • For people starting the vaccination series after their 15th birthday: 3 doses of HPV vaccine, with the second dose given 1–2 months after the first dose, and the third dose given 6 months after the first dose

ACIP also recommends the 3-dose schedule for immunocompromised people.
