HIV testing is an important step to identify infection, prevent transmission of the virus, and protect the health of individuals with HIV. Individuals with HIV who know their status can get treatment and stay healthy for many years. In this systematic review, the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) found that interventions to increase HIV testing for partners of people recently diagnosed with HIV can help improve health outcomes. These interventions include notifying and offering HIV testing and other services to people who had sex with or shared needles with a person recently diagnosed with HIV.
