The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends against using combined estrogen and progestin to prevent chronic conditions in postmenopausal people. For people who have gone through menopause and had a hysterectomy, USPSTF recommends against using estrogen alone to prevent chronic conditions. USPSTF has made other recommendations to prevent chronic conditions in adults, which include:
- Screening for high blood pressure, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and types of cancer
- Using behavioral counseling to promote a healthy diet and physical activity
