The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) for adults who don’t have symptoms, but who have a higher risk of tuberculosis (TB) infection. This includes adults who:

  • Were born in or have lived in countries where TB is common
  • Lived in certain group home settings, like prisons or homeless shelters

USPSTF found that treating LTBI can keep the infection from turning into active tuberculosis.
