Skin Cancer: Interventions in Outdoor Occupational Settings

The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends interventions in outdoor work settings to prevent skin cancer in people who work outdoors. These interventions include at least 1 of the following: 

  • Educational approaches, like giving people information about sun protection 
  • Activities designed to influence people’s knowledge, attitudes, or behaviors, like modeling sun-protective behaviors
  • Environmental approaches, like providing sunscreen or shade 
  • Policies, like requiring sun-protective clothing

CPSTF found that these interventions increase people’s sun-protective behaviors and reduce sunburns.
