The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends interventions for skin cancer prevention and sun-protective behaviors in outdoor recreational and tourism settings. In these settings, visitors and employees may get more ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. UV rays can damage skin cells, leading to sunburn, sun poisoning, and skin cancer. These interventions include at least one of the following:

  • Educational, environmental, or policy approaches to support sun protection practices
  • Activities to improve visitors’ knowledge, attitudes, or behaviors about sun protection
