The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends policies and programs to reduce out-of-pocket costs for evidence-based smoking cessation treatments. CPSTF found that this is an effective way to increase the number of people who quit smoking. These policies and programs make some treatments — including medication, counseling, and a combination of the 2 — more affordable. This can involve providing new benefits or changing the level of benefits offered.
