The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends using provider reminder systems based on strong evidence that they increase colorectal cancer screening by fecal occult blood test and sufficient evidence that they increase colorectal cancer screening by flexible sigmoidoscopy. These reminders let health care providers know that it’s time — or past time — for a client’s cancer screening. Providers can get the reminders in different ways, like in client charts or emails. CPSTF found insufficient evidence to determine whether provider reminders increase colorectal cancer screening by colonoscopy or double contrast barium enema.
