Methodology
Methodology notes
Data for this indicator are from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR), a national data collection of crimes reported by law enforcement agencies. Data are voluntarily contributed by more than 18,000 city, university and college, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout the nation. For this indicator, violent crime includes the three offenses of murder and non-negligent manslaughter, robbery, and aggravated assault. The number of agencies contributing data for this indicator, and the resident populations served by those agencies varies by year. Population denominators for rate calculations are adjusted to account for non-reporting agencies.
