The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends the use of regulatory authority (like through licensing and zoning) to limit alcohol outlet density as a way to reduce excessive drinking and related harms. CPSTF found that greater alcohol outlet density is associated with increased drinking and related harms. However, no studies in CPSTF’s review examined the effects of local interventions to limit alcohol outlet density.
