Summary

Thanks to vaccines, measles has been officially eliminated in the United States — but there have been outbreaks in recent years. There have also been outbreaks of mumps. Children need 2 doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine before starting kindergarten to prevent these diseases. Evidence shows that requiring MMR vaccination in schoolchildren can increase the vaccination coverage level.
