Questions used to obtain the national baseline data
From the 2022-2023 National Survey of Family Growth:
CONSTAT1-CONSTAT4 recodes are used to measure current contraceptive status.

Methodology notes
The most effective methods of contraception are: male or female sterilization, implants, and intrauterine device. Moderately effective methods of contraception are: injectables, oral pills, contraceptive patch, or contraceptive ring.
At risk of unintended pregnancy is defined as women who have ever had sex (with a man), are not sterile (for surgical noncontraceptive or nonsurgical reasons), or are neither pregnant, seeking pregnancy, nor postpartum.
History
In 2026, following a redesign of the NSFG survey, the baseline for this objective was revised from 60.3% as reported in 2015-2017 to 58.3% as reported in 2022-2023. Using the original target-setting method, the target was also updated from 65.1% to 63.2%.
