Move Your Way…at the Ballpark!

Recently, employees from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) gathered at Nationals Park – the home of Washington D.C.’s Major League Baseball team – as part of “HHS Night at the Ballpark.” The Move Your Way team attended this annual celebration of camaraderie in which HHS employees were recognized during the pre-game ceremony.

Move Your Way and the Physical Activity Guidelines had a strong presence during this year’s festivities. A Move Your Way photo booth was set up on the concourse, and all fans were encouraged to stop by to learn about the benefits of physical activity and pledge to get active every day.

George Washington and Teddy Roosevelt (the Nationals racing presidents mascots) even stopped by to tell us how they meet their physical activity goals!

The Physical Activity Guidelines key recommendations for adults were even highlighted during trivia on the big screen in the 3rd inning of the game:

The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends adults get how much physical activity each week for health benefits?

A: At least 150 minutes of aerobic activity
B: At least 2 days of muscle-strengthening activity
C: Both A & B

The trivia contestant correctly answered C: Both A & B! Adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity plus two days or more of muscle-strengthening activity each week. Youth need at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day. Everyone can gain health benefits from sitting less and moving more.

Assistant Secretary for Health, ADM Brett P. Giroir also stopped by to share how he gets active. “Physical activity is one of the best things you can do for health. I make it a priority in my life and I was so glad to see so many of my colleagues and other Nats fans pledging to be active their way!”

HHS Employees and Nats fans of all ages pledged to keep moving in variety of ways, including:
