Just Released: New Healthy People Law and Health Policy Oral Health Report

Laws and policies can help support healthier, safer, and more livable communities, and promote health and positive health behaviors such as increasing the use of oral health care and services, and supporting achievement of national goals in this area proposed by Healthy People 2020.

The newest report, Using Law and Policy to Promote the Use of Oral Health Services in the United States, is the fifth in a series of reports that highlight the practical application of law and policy to improve health across the nation.

This report presents evidence-based policy solutions that community and tribal leaders, government officials, public health professionals, health care providers, lawyers, and social service providers can use in their communities. Success stories — or Bright Spots — illustrate how some communities have used law and policy to help meet their health goals and achieve Healthy People targets.

About the Law and Health Policy Project

The goal of the Healthy People Law and Health Policy project is to highlight how evidence-based legal and policy interventions and strategies can facilitate progress toward Healthy People objectives by improving community health and well-being. In addition to reports and webinars, the project includes "Bright Spots," or success stories, that highlight successful policy interventions that have led to improved health outcomes.

The project is a collaboration between the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CDC Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
