Summary
Drinking too much alcohol can cause serious health problems including stroke, cancer, and cirrhosis. People with alcohol use disorder are also more likely to get sick and less able to fight off infections. Prevention strategies include programs at the school, family, and community level — and behavioral therapies and medications can help treat alcohol use disorder.
