The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is pleased to announce the next webinar in the Healthy People 2030 Webinar Series: Cancer Prevention and Healthy People 2030: Goals, Objectives, and Implementation. This webinar will take place on Wednesday, September 14 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm ET. To register, please visit the Healthy People 2030 Webinar Series registration page.
During this one-hour webinar, presenters will provide an overview of three featured Healthy People 2030 cancer-related objectives, their connections to one another, and current progress toward meeting their targets. Additionally, the South Dakota Department of Health will share details on their state-wide cancer prevention efforts.
The three Healthy People 2030 objectives featured during the webinar:
- IID‑08: Increase the proportion of adolescents who get recommended doses of the HPV vaccine
HPV (human papillomavirus) can lead to cancer in both men and women. Almost all HPV-related cancers can be prevented by the HPV vaccine, but many adolescents aren’t getting the vaccine. Strategies to make sure more adolescents get vaccinated include using vaccination information systems, sending patient reminders, and starting vaccination programs in schools. - PA‑01: Reduce the proportion of adults who do no physical activity in their free time
Doing regular physical activity is one of the most important ways that people of all ages can improve their health. Physical activity can help delay, prevent, or manage many chronic diseases. Strategies to promote physical activity include informational, behavioral, social, environmental, and policy approaches. - TU‑02: Reduce current cigarette smoking in adults (LHI)
Cigarette smoking causes cancer and early death, and U.S. adults are more likely to use cigarettes than any other tobacco product. Population-level interventions to reduce tobacco use include price increases, mass media campaigns, and smoke-free policies.
