Meet Rayhaan Merani, the new executive director of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition (PCSFN). Recently appointed by President Joseph Biden, Mr. Merani is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the PCSFN and for providing guidance to the Biden-Harris administration’s appointed Council members in their efforts to carry out the work of the President’s Council.
The PCSFN is a federal advisory committee that aims to promote healthy eating and physical activity for all people, regardless of background or ability. The mission of the Council is to engage, educate, and empower all Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition.
“This Council has played a critical role since its inception to raise public awareness and establish programs that promote nutrition, physical activity, and fitness for Americans of all ages and backgrounds,” said Merani. “I am excited to continue that tradition and join this distinguished group of individuals in service to make a healthier America.”
Merani credits sports participation as a youth with helping him to develop skills that have led him to this position as executive director of the Council. Merani indicated that, “Sports were such a big part of my childhood – I know firsthand the benefits that they bring to developing our young people; everything from building skills like teamwork and leadership to ensuring their long-term fitness. Participating in sports at some level through my community growing up – whether it was through sports clinics or larger sports tournaments – has also shown me the power of physical activity in bringing people together from all ages and backgrounds. I hope to be able to work alongside the Council to bring the positive impact of sports and nutrition education to improve the collective health and wellness of every American.”
