ODPHP, Public and Private Organizations Form Coalition to Raise Awareness, Boost Uptake of Preventive Health Services

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) has joined a coalition of government and private-sector health partners led by American’s Health Insurance Plans, Inc. (known as AHIP) to launch a campaign to promote increased uptake of clinical preventive services (CPS).

"Rates of access to preventive health services and primary care visits, which were already well below ideal levels prior to the pandemic, have yet to rebound fully,” explained RDML Paul Reed, MD, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health and ODPHP Director. “This is especially worrisome among certain racial and ethnic communities whose rates were concerningly low."

The coalition plans to draw attention to several resources educating Americans about the importance of preventive services. Amongst these is the award-winning MyHealthfinder preventive services tool. Developed by the ODPHP, MyHealthfinder features more than 100 plain language health topics in English and Spanish and an assessment tool that provides tailored recommendations for CPS based on a user’s age and sex. To better empower users seeking these services in their local communities, ODPHP recently added a new page to MyHealthfinder – Find and Access Preventive Services – that highlights the benefits of clinical preventive services and offers actionable tips to help people find free or low-cost preventive care, regardless of their health insurance status.
