The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is pleased to announce its next Healthy People 2030 webinar: Breaking Down Barriers to Health Care by Addressing the Social Determinants of Health. This webinar will take place on Wednesday, December 11th from 1:00 pm ET to 2:00 pm ET. To register, please visit the Healthy People 2030 Webinar Series Registration page. Continuing Education Credits* (CEs) are available for those who register and attend the live webinar.
This one-hour event will feature:
- An exploration of the three Healthy People 2030 featured objectives related to health care access and the importance of addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH)
- A presentation of the latest data for these three objectives by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics
- Healthy People 2030 Champion Family Service Association of San Antonio discussing their collaboration with healthcare and non-healthcare sectors to address SDOH in their community
The three Healthy People 2030 objectives to be featured during the webinar are:
AHS-04: Reduce the proportion of people who can’t get medical care when they need it
Delaying medical care can negatively impact health and increase the cost of care. People who can’t get the care they need may have more preventable complications, hospitalizations, emotional stress, and higher costs. Strategies to increase insurance coverage rates and improve health information technology may help reduce delays in care.
SDOH-01: Reduce the proportion of persons living in poverty
People living in poverty are less likely to have access to health care, healthy food, stable housing, and opportunities for physical activity. These disparities mean people living in poverty are more likely to die from preventable diseases. Programs and policies that make food, housing, health care, and education more affordable can help reduce poverty.
SDOH-02: Increase employment in working-age people (Leading Health Indicator)
People who work are more likely to have positive health outcomes, but many people in the United States have trouble finding and keeping a job. Employment programs that provide career counseling, jobs, and educational opportunities to low-income and underemployed populations may help more people find and keep paid work.
