Help Develop the National Youth Sports Strategy — Submit Your Comments!

HHS is seeking written comments from the public on the National Youth Sports Strategy (NYSS) draft report. You can review and comment on the draft Strategy during the public comment period through 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, July 22, 2019. It’s a short window. Don’t miss your chance!

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health is developing the NYSS to “expand children’s participation in youth sports, encourage regular physical activity, including active play, and promote good nutrition for all Americans,” as directed by Presidential Executive Order 13824. The strategy is based on a scoping review of scientific literature on youth sports and input from a committee led by ODPHP with federal staff from CDC, NIH, and the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition (PCSFN). ODPHP and PCSFN also convened a listening session in April 2019 to ensure that the strategy was informed by external stakeholders in youth sports. The NYSS focuses on children and adolescents ages 6 to 17, especially those in communities with below-average sports participation or limited access to athletic facilities or recreational areas.

Playing sports is one way youth can get 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity every day, which the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends. Youth who are physically active are more likely to be healthy now and in the future.

HHS will review all public comments and incorporate the feedback into the final version of the NYSS.

Help us promote youth sports participation across the Nation!
