Section 3.1 Consider your digital team

To create digital products that serve more people, start by examining gaps in the composition of your team. Invest in building a digital team that reflects different perspectives, backgrounds, and abilities. To do this:

  • Promote job openings to organizations and job boards that serve groups that have been historically marginalized
  • Ensure your application and interview processes are accessible to people with disabilities and use welcoming, respectful language
  • Audit your internal tools and resources for accessibility

Building a representative team doesn’t happen overnight. In the short term, augment your core team of employees with external contributors, partners, and people with lived experience. Invite people with different backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives to give feedback on early designs, test prototypes, and iterate on future design versions to get the best user experience (see Section 2).
