Section 7.3 Check your site regularly for accuracy and accessibility

Once you’ve developed your quality guidelines, put them to use! Check your site regularly to make sure it’s accurate and current.

Free tools like Core Web Vitals can help you automatically scan your site to track and measure key indicators of “site health,” including accessibility and page performance. Set up a schedule to run these regularly so you can maintain site quality. You can also create custom automated quality control (QC) scripts that run regularly to monitor key site functionality — like checking that a search for “cholesterol” returns results on a site about heart health. This doesn’t replace user testing, but it’s a helpful way to ensure basic site functions are working like they should.

Web content can become outdated quickly, so it’s important to check and replace broken links over time. Use an automated link scanning tool to generate a report of links that are no longer active and identify appropriate replacement links that support your content. In addition to maintaining the accuracy of your content and limiting confusing errors for users, this approach also supports SEO — helping more users to find your content.
