Between October 18–21, this website will move to a new web address (from health.gov to odphp.health.gov). During that time, some functions might not work as expected. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we’re working to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Registration for Healthy People, Healthy Hearts: Healthy People 2030 and Cardiovascular Health Webinar is Now Open

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is pleased to announce the next webinar in the Healthy People 2030 Webinar Series: Healthy People, Healthy Hearts: Healthy People 2030 and Cardiovascular Health. This webinar will take place on Tuesday, December 6 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm ET. To register, please visit the Healthy People 2030 Webinar Series Registration page.

During this one-hour webinar, presenters will provide an overview of four featured Healthy People 2030 cardiovascular disease-related objectives, their connections to one another, and current progress toward meeting their targets. Additionally, the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services will share details on their efforts to address adolescent obesity and prevent cardiovascular disease.

The four Healthy People 2030 objectives to be featured during the webinar include:

  • HDS-02: Reduce coronary heart disease deaths
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common type of heart disease. Although the death rate from CHD has gone down in recent years, disparities by sex, race/ethnicity, and geographic location remain. Strategies to lower the risk of developing CHD, like controlling blood pressure, can reduce CHD deaths.
  • HDS-03: Reduce stroke deaths
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of long-term disability. Low-income populations, some racial/ethnic groups, and people who live in certain geographic regions are more likely to have a stroke and to die of a stroke. Interventions to lower people’s risk for stroke by improving blood pressure, diet, and physical activity are critical for reducing stroke deaths. Raising awareness of stroke signs and symptoms and improving stroke management can also help reduce death and disability related to stroke.
  • NWS-04: Reduce the proportion of children and adolescents with obesity (LHI)
Many children and adolescents in the United States have obesity. Obesity is linked to a higher risk for diseases and conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, asthma, anxiety, and depression. In addition, children with obesity are more likely to be bullied and to have obesity as adults. Evidence suggests that intensive behavioral programs that use more than 1 strategy are an effective way to reduce childhood obesity. Policy and school curriculum changes that make it easier for children and adolescents to eat healthy and get physical activity can also help reduce obesity.
  • TU-14: Increase successful quit attempts in adults who smoke
Cigarette smoking causes cancer and early death. Counseling and medication make it more likely that people will quit smoking — and strategies to raise awareness and provide insurance coverage for these treatments make it more likely that people will use them.
