The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Dietary Guidelines), 2025- 2030 provides advice on nutrition intake to meet nutrient needs, promote health, and prevent disease. The U.S. Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) work together to update and release the Dietary Guidelines for Americans every 5 years.
The current guidelines can be viewed or downloaded at RealFood.gov.
The newly published Dietary Guidelines aim to reduce chronic disease by recommending specific dietary habits to support a healthy life.
The key message of the Dietary Guidelines is: Eat Real Food. It prioritizes diets built on whole, nutrient-dense foods, including protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains. The Dietary Guidelines also recommend reducing intake of highly processed foods, including those with refined carbohydrates, added sugars, excess sodium, unhealthy fats, and chemical additives.
