Current Dietary Guidelines

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Dietary Guidelines), 2025- 2030 provides advice on what to eat and drink to meet nutrient needs, promote health, and prevent disease. The U.S. Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) work together to update and release the Dietary Guidelines for Americans every 5 years. It is developed and written for a professional audience, including policymakers, health care providers, nutrition educators, and federal nutrition program operators.

The current guidelines can be viewed or downloaded at DietaryGuidelines.gov

It prioritizes diets built on whole, nutrient-dense foods—protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats,  and whole grains. Paired with a dramatic reduction in highly processed foods laden with refined carbohydrates, added sugars, excess sodium, unhealthy fats, and chemical additives, this approach looks to change the health trajectory for so many Americans.

The current edition seeks to realign our food system to support American farmers, ranchers, and companies who grow and produce real food. It seeks to put real food back at the center of the American diet: real food that nourishes the body, real food that restores health, real food that fuels energy and encourages movement and exercise, and real food that builds strength.
