Dietary Guidelines

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Dietary Guidelines) provides advice on what to eat and drink to meet nutrient needs, promote health, and prevent disease. It is developed and written for a professional audience, including policymakers, healthcare providers, nutrition educators, and federal nutrition program operators. The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) work together to update and release the Dietary Guidelines every five years. HHS and USDA will host a public meeting on January 16, 2025 where members of the public may provide oral comments on the Scientific Report of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. Registration for this meeting opens Monday, December 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM ET and will close once capacity has been reached.

Now Available: The Scientific Report of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee

The 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s Scientific Report has been submitted to the Secretaries of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and is now available online. To gather public input on the Scientific Report, HHS and USDA have opened a 60-day comment period during which interested parties are invited to share their feedback.

At the final public meeting of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (Committee) held in late October, Committee members reviewed and discussed the findings and advice that would be included in its Scientific Report. Also at this meeting, federal staff from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) discussed the next steps in the process the two Departments will use to develop the next edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which will be released by the end of 2025.
